Kyle | Roen |
This website was created by Chad Horn in 2004. Many parts of the site have stopped working since, including the message board, contact info, and links to videos that used to be on the Disclosure website (a Canadian TV show).
Another interview was done in Janurary 2012, this time with both Roen and Kyle. When this interview is released, I will post a link to it here. As long as greatnow is willing to keep this site up, I will try to keep it current. Inaccurate information that was on this site has been deleted. Opinions of family members are welcome, if they are current. Dwan, Chad, email them to me if you want them here.
Roen and Kyle are influenced by the awesome Michael Jackson. Roen's new website is inspiredbymichael.com, so check it out. Roen also assembles videos for his youtube page, so check it out.
On June 10, 2003 the CPS thought it was a good idea to detain Roen. They intended to take away his freedom, and they had threatened to force-feed him vegetable oil and other toxic things. For what? He was 15 and he was a normal weight, but they claimed he wasn't. As they stood in the entry way of the house, Roen looked over from the kitchen at Kyle, who was standing in the entry way. At that moment Roen knew they were there to take him away, so he slipped out the back door and hid himself.
Eventually Roen wanted more freedom. He found it difficult to live in hiding in Roseville. So he went with Kyle to Canada. They walked across the border and no one said a word to them, like they were invisible. They camped in the woods and lived on cheap fruits and vegetables sold at fruit stands. Nice people walked up and gave them money. They did not even have to ask a single time. They hanged out at the library and learned stuff. They swam in the Okanagan Lake and had a fun summer.
Meanwhile, Roen was losing weight. Now that the control-freak authorities had scared him off, he ate however he wanted, and went from a normal 110 pounds (for his height and age that is at the bottom of normal, but still normal) to a very low 84 pounds. Kyle warned Roen that he had a chance to get to a normal weight on his own terms, but was not taking advantage of it, and might be hospitalized in Canada!
A nice person named Tami Ryder saw the boys one day at the library. She wanted to get them help, her way. She wanted them to be provided money by the government. At that moment Kyle decided that Roen and he must go forward with the false story they had prepared in advance. They told it first to Tami and a social worker that was with her when they met. But they didn't have ID so how could they work? Kyle said the law was wrong, and people are free to work without ID, and do no wrong. Somehow the government overlooked the lack of ID and gave them some money. Five months, until the secret was discovered.
Shortly after meeting Tami the Canadian media started to hear about the story which Roen and Kyle told, that they had been raised in the wilderness of Canada. Also during that time (and up until March 10, 2004), Roen was getting closer and closer to 84 pounds. Being in the news and everything, you would think Roen would be worried of being found out, hospitalization, or both, and therefore would want to gain more weight on his own terms. However, that never seemed to enter into his mind, even though Tami was expressing her concern for his low weight. Tami had Roen see a doctor, which showed him a chart. The chart showed the relative risk a person was in based upon their weight. Roen was NOT at the wisest weight to be. Nevertheless, Roen was at lower risk than 20% of the population for being overweight! Of course, more than weight alone should be considered! If a person is starving their body (which Roen wasn't) that will put them at a much greater risk regardless of their weight. Starving the body of fats one's brain does not work normally. This is true even if there is relatively no risk. As Roen will attest, his brain was not functioning anywhere near optimally when he was eating hardly any fattening foods.
On March 10, 2004 the police in Vernon, BC detained Roen and took him into a hospital. That day Roen cried, because he was scared. Police mocked him about force feeding. At the hospital the staff did not know whether Roen would be force fed or not, therefore Roen worried that they were going to. But it turns out they didn't. The doctors were all very reasonable people, and allowed Roen to eat on his own terms as long as he continued to put on weight. This made Roen happy. He continued to put on weight in the hospital in Vernon. The doctors were all in agreement that Roen was not anorexic. Many people who suffer from low weight are not anorexic. Sometimes there is something physically wrong with the person's body, and it is NOT in the mind. Roen's reason was yet another one entirely. Like someone with anorexia, he decided to eat a low fat diet (for non-anorexic reasons). The lack of fat caused his brain to not "see" that he was becoming too thin, and that it would be smarter to put on more weight & eat more fats.
Meanwhile Kyle did an interview with Disclosure, a Canadian TV documentary show, and Roen appeared in it, but only in the hospital room. Coinciding with the release of that documentary show, other media (including SF Chronicle, and a Roseville, CA TV station) used the story as a filler. A friend of the Horn family saw the piece and recognized the brothers, and informed the parents. Then Chad contacted Disclosure and notified them of the boys' identities.
Disclosure then did a follow-up show to reveal what they had learned. They interviewed the parents, and Kyle did another interview with Gillian Findlay, but who has seen it? It was too controversial to show. After the interview, the police ordered that Kyle Horn be removed from Canada by his father, and thus he was separated from his brother, exactly as he had prophesied in 2002, the exact day, and a full moon (it was 4-4-4).
